Stop your emails landing in spam: SPF, DKIM and DMARC
If your emails arrive in other people’s spam folders, or are rejected, your domain may be missing three records that prove your email is genuine.
| Record | What it does |
|---|---|
| SPF | Lists which servers are allowed to send email for your domain. |
| DKIM | Adds a digital signature to every email so receivers know it was not changed. |
| DMARC | Tells receiving servers what to do with email that fails SPF or DKIM, and lets you receive reports. |
Check and repair SPF and DKIM
- In cPanel, click Email Deliverability under Email.
- Find your domain. A green tick means the records are valid; a warning means a problem.
- If there is a problem, click Manage, then Repair to install the recommended record.
Note
This only works if your domain’s DNS is managed on your AfterWave hosting. If your nameservers point elsewhere, add the records where your DNS is hosted. See Understanding DNS and nameservers.
Add a basic DMARC record
- In cPanel open Zone Editor and click Manage next to your domain.
- Click Add Record, choose type TXT, and enter the name
_dmarc. - For the value enter
v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:you@yourdomain.co.zausing an address you read. - Save the record. After a few weeks of reports you can move
p=nonetop=quarantine.
For more about editing records, see How to add or edit DNS records in cPanel.
