How to add or edit DNS records in cPanel

Web HostingLast updated October 2026

You can only edit records here if your domain uses the AfterWave nameservers. If it does not, edit the records where your nameservers are hosted. See Understanding DNS and nameservers.

  1. Log in to cPanel and click Zone Editor under Domains.
  2. Click Manage next to your domain.
  3. Click Add Record and choose the type (A, CNAME, MX or TXT).
  4. Fill in the Name and the value (the address, name or text) and click Save Record.
  5. To change a record, click Edit next to it. To remove one, click Delete.
Important
Do not delete records you do not understand. A missing A, MX or CNAME record can take your website or email offline.

Changes usually work within minutes but can take up to 24–48 hours to appear everywhere. Email authentication records are explained in SPF, DKIM and DMARC.
