How to back up your website
Backups protect you from mistakes, hacks and failed updates. We may keep our own backups, but you should keep your own copies as well, because you are responsible for your data.
Download a full or partial backup
- In cPanel click Backup (or Backup Wizard).
- Under Partial Backups click your Home Directory to download your files, and each MySQL database name to download its database.
- Save the files somewhere safe, such as your computer and a cloud drive.
How often?
- Before any big change, plugin or theme update.
- At least monthly for sites that rarely change, weekly or more for busy sites and shops.
Restoring
To restore, upload the files back to public_html and import the database. If you are not sure, contact support before overwriting anything.
Note
Backups taken on your own computer are the only ones you fully control. Do not rely on a single copy.
