How to transfer a domain to or from AfterWave
Transfers move the registration of your domain between companies. They are different from changing nameservers, which only changes where your website is hosted. See How to point your domain to AfterWave hosting.
Before you start
- The domain must be unlocked and not recently registered or transferred. Registries can block transfers shortly after registration.
- Your contact email must be correct, as approval emails are sent there.
- Do not let the domain expire during the transfer.
Transfer to AfterWave
- Contact us with your domain name and tell us who it is registered with.
- Ask your current registrar to unlock the domain and give you the transfer (authorisation) code where one is required.
- Send us the code. We start the transfer and confirm when it completes.
Transfer away from AfterWave
- Contact us from the email address on your account and ask for the domain to be transferred out.
- We unlock the domain and send you the transfer code if needed.
- Give the code to your new registrar and approve the transfer when asked.
Note
Transfer rules and timing depend on the domain extension and the registry. Your domain’s website and email keep working during a transfer as long as DNS stays the same.
